The ABCC was delighted to host His Excellency Minister for Economic Affairs and Finance Sid’Ahmed Ould Bouhthe minister and the delegation from Mauritania to the chamber premises on Wednesday 4th December for a roundtable discussion on opportunities in the Northwest African country.
The ministerial roundtable witnessed high level participation of senior executives from various industries, investors, legal experts, officials and diplomats who were drawn from the ABCC’s membership and its wider business network.
The Minister was welcomed to the chamber by Mr Bandar Reda, ABCC Secretary General & CEO and Mr Abdeslam El-Idrissi, ABCC Deputy CEO & Secretary General.
The Minister was joined by His Excellency BA Samba Mamadou, the Mauritanian Ambassador to the UK.
The roundtable was chaired by Mr Reda, who introduced the minister and opened the discussion in the boardroom of the ABCC.
The Minister began by thanking the chamber for its support and for offering the opportunity to explain the various opportunities that were available in Mauritania today.
The Minister described Mauritania as one of the most stable economies in the African continent.
There was a need for better infrastructure across the country which offers many opportunities for investors.
The country’s laws on public private partnership and on procurement as well as the country’s investment code have all recently been amended to create a more attractive environment for investment.
Describing the country’s main sectors, the Minister highlighted mining, fisheries, agriculture, among others, where there were many opportunities for investors.
He urged British companies to take advantage of the growing potential of Mauritania and wanted to see a more solid partnership with the UK.
Further details concerning the country’s investment strategy were outlined by Ms Aissata Lam, Director General for the Promotion of the Private Investment in Mauritania, which is an operational arm of the ministry offering a one-stop shop service to investors.
Charing the discussion, Mr Reda stated that Mauritania offered great potential in various sectors, including oil and gas and pledged the ABCC’s continued support.
Mr Reda concluded by thanking the Minister and his team for participating in an important meeting that would help inform UK investors of the many opportunities that were available. The meeting ended with a networking reception.
