London, 15 May 2025 – The Arab-British Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) had the honour of hosting His Excellency Mr. Babikir Elsiddig M. Elamin, Ambassador of Sudan, at its Ambassadorial Roundtable, where he delivered a powerful address to an audience of investors, business leaders, and diplomats.
Speaking on the theme “Tapping the Reconstruction of Sudan”, the Ambassador provided an enlightening perspective on Sudan’s vast economic potential and diverse, largely untapped resources. His Excellency underscored the abundant opportunities available for foreign investment and encouraged greater UK involvement in Sudan’s reconstruction and development.
The roundtable was chaired by Mr. Bandar Reda, ABCC Secretary General & CEO, alongside Mr. Abdeslam El-Idrissi, ABCC Deputy CEO & Secretary General. The event attracted a strong audience of British executives and diplomats, including professionals from the energy, legal, and strategic consulting sectors, all of whom were deeply impressed by the Ambassador’s detailed presentation.
His Excellency emphasised the importance of the meeting in raising awareness within the UK business community of Sudan’s immense commercial and investment potential. He also expressed his gratitude to the ABCC for its support and foresight in organising such a timely discussion.
Investment opportunities highlighted by the Ambassador spanned a wide spectrum, including the rebuilding of essential infrastructure, universities, public utilities, roads, and new ports. Key sectors identified included electricity, water, and telecommunications, where strategic partnerships and innovative foreign investment are actively sought.
Sudan’s mining industry was presented as a major strength, with rich deposits of gold, copper, zinc, tin, chromium, iron, rare earths, as well as oil and gas offering vast possibilities for investors. In addition, the Ambassador highlighted the underutilisation of Sudan’s fertile arable land, pointing to major opportunities for agricultural modernisation and expansion.
In closing, Mr. Bandar Reda thanked the Ambassador for his powerful advocacy of Sudan’s business potential and reaffirmed the Chamber’s commitment to supporting UK-Sudan trade and investment ties. Mr. Abdeslam El-Idrissi further noted that the ABCC would be delighted to welcome a Sudanese delegation to participate in the forthcoming Arab British Economic Summit (ABES 2025), where further opportunities for cooperation with UK companies could be explored.
